A card punch is a secret device used by gamblers to mark cards by putting blisters or bumps (similar to Brail but much finer) on specific cards that they need to identify without looking at the deck. Magicians and mentalists have also used this technology to mark specific cards to accomplish miracles.

This custom designed card punch is made of Plexiglas and uses a simple adjustment mechanism, made of brass, which allows you to put blisters on just about any thickness card. The larger than usual size makes it easier to punch the cards in any location and can even be used for Jumbo Cards, index cards or sheets of paper.

The unique design also makes it easier to place the blisters in precise locations. All you have to do is turn the punch so the hole is up and align it so you can see through the hole and punch. The pin is centered in the hole.

This is one of the most devious and ordinary looking props a magician and mentalist can use. The concept of multiple outs is a powerful weapon when used in a mental effect. Books have been written on the subject and hundreds of props have been invented to produce the desired results. The Piatt Envelope is among the best and fairest methods ever invented for this purpose.

The envelopes are standard looking coin and invitation envelopes. The handling of the envelopes is direct. There is no fumbling and no extra handling. Just open the flap and dump out the correct prediction. The envelopes are gaffed and are large enough to hold a playing card. Exhibit a ten inch kitchen alarm clock and show the spectator how to set the hands to any desired time. Explain that the alarm has been set ahead of time-to a time known only to you.

Place the clock on it’s stand facing the audience. Ask the spectator to try and guess the time the alarm was set to. Say that the spectator guesses 3:12.

"Let’s find out if that is correct... Set the clock one minute before the time you guessed-3:11." The spectator does so, for all to see. Continue talking for that minute as the hands reach and pass the 3:12 mark. There is no alarm sounded.

"Obviously, you did not guess my secret time, or the alarm would have gone off. Now, let’s try something else. This time, I will concentrate on the exact time I set and will try to transmit that time to you-mentally. Please open your mind to my thoughts. I am now concentrating. When I snap my fingers, please say out loud the first time that comes into your head."

You snap your fingers and the spectator says, for example: '5:23.' Tongue in cheek, you ask: AM or PM? 'AM.' answers the spectator, with a smile. The spectator is asked to set the clock to one minute before the time he called out- '5:22 AM.'

You recap what has happened. "I set the alarm for a time unknown to you. The time 5:23 popped into your head. If that time is correct, in a few seconds-the alarm will go off." By this time, the minute has passed, the clock now reads: '5:23' and the very loud alarm sounds!

You do not touch the clock, once it is placed on the table-before the spectator names a time. The spectator can name any hour and any minutes. The clock is a normal clock.
